Sedation dentistry, also occasionally referred to as relaxation dentistry, is way to manage discomfort, pain, and anxiety during dental treatment. With sedation dentistry, we can provide safe, comfortable dental care to patients who are nervous, feel afraid, or have special needs.
In addition to common medications and nitrous oxide, at Kearbey Dental Group we are certified by the Dental Board of California to offer intravenous sedation. This solidifies our commitment to offering gentle dentistry in Oroville, as fewer than 1% of dentists in California have received the certification required for IV sedation.
With oral conscious sedation, your doctor provides you with a medication that will help you enter a deep state of relaxation while still remaining conscious. Most adults will be given Halcion (triazolam), which is in pill form, while children are often given Versed (Medazolan), which is in liquid form.
Inhalation sedation is a light form of sedation also referred to as laughing gas. It’s a mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen. Inhalation sedation is the most commonly used type of sedation in dentistry.
During intravenous sedation, our board-certified dentists administer medications through an IV, facilitating the highest level of patient comfort throughout the procedure. Unlike oral sedation, IV sedation works instantly and enables certainty of exactly how much medication is needed to maintain patient comfort. As the patient is sedated through the IV, we can tailor the medications to each patient's response accurately and safely.
